“An Okuma LR 25M mill spindle servomotor was giving us an over-current alarm. At that time I was out recuperating from a minor operation, so our sales staff called in an outside service engineer. The engineer determined that the motor was bad and sent it out for repair. The repair cost us $1500. When I returned to work I installed the motor, but it continued giving the over-current alarm. The company that repaired the motor insisted that the motor ran fine in their shop. After a week of pulling my hair out trying different things, I called Chuck Nichols at Endeavor Technologies. “The stator of the watercooled Kessler 100HP spindle motor for a Mägerle grinder we were rebuilding was full of refrigerant due to what we thought was a bad O-ring. Turns out that aggressive coolant had caused extensive damage to the water jacket. All of the O-ring sealing surfaces were badly corroded, and there was even a hole eaten through from the water channel to the inside of the motor. Endeavor Technologies was actually able to repair all that damage, and then rebuild the motor. These are high precision grinders and the motors have very tight vibration specs. We’ve had trouble with motors that were repaired by companies that were supposed to be qualified, but the motor from Endeavor was perfect from the start.”
